Grocery prices by metro area

What a basket of everyday groceries costs in each U.S. market we can measure honestly — and how that cost is moving. Every figure comes from prices observed in real stores, and any market that doesn't clear our minimum-sample thresholds is withheld rather than estimated.

A note on reading this table: basket costs are indicative, not a precise ranking. What clears our sample thresholds differs by market, so part of the gap between two cities is composition rather than price. The month-over-month change is the like-for-like figure — it compares the same items at the same stores. Rows are not all the same month. Each market shows its most recent published figure, and the date beneath the market name says which month that is — so read down the date column before comparing two rows. A blank month-over-month has more than one cause: a sample below our thresholds, or a month that follows a methodology change and is therefore not comparable with the one before it (August 2026 is such a month). It never means zero.
